The Smofcon room block at the Airport Hilton is currently sold out!
The Hilton is selling rooms outside the Smofcon room block for $159/night.
Update: Gary Feldbaum kindly dropped us a note letting us know he was able to book a room at the Hilton outside the Smofcon block for $139/night. When checking a few minutes later, $139/night reservations were available on Friday and Saturday nights; reservation searches including any other nights all came in at the $159/night rate we've been seeing for several weeks now. There are of course no guarantees on how long the $139 rate will be available, or what other rates the hotel might offer general guests between now and the weekend. While we would be very pleasantly surprised to get more rooms at the Smofcon rates from the Hilton right now, there are currently reasonably-priced hotel options nearby and they come with free 24-hour airport shuttles.
For example, as of November 21st, the Hyatt Harborside at Logan Airport—two-thirds of a mile away—has a $151.20 AAA/CAA member rate available for Friday-Sunday nights of Smofcon, and a Thursday rate of $159.20.
The Hampton Inn-Logan Airport—2 miles away, with a free 24-hour/day shuttle—currently has $99 rates available to anyone including both shoulder nights—Thursday arrival through Monday departure. The Hampton Inn also has a AAA/AARP rate of $89.10/night available December 6-10.
The Holiday Inn Boston - Logan Airport is 1 mile north of the airport, with complimentary airport and train shuttles. Rates as of 11/21: $133/night Thursday through Sunday nights. The AAA/AARP rate for the same nights is $126.
Embassy Suites Boston - at Logan: the best unrestricted rate as of 11/21 is $159/night. This is the same as the $159 best unrestricted rate the Hilton is offering. The Embassy Suites does have a 5% discount for AAA/AARP membership.
Airport hotels all tend to have free 24-hour shuttles to the airport, and once you're at Logan, you can walk to the Hilton without going outdoors—Terminals A and E both connect to the hotel by skyway (enclosed walkway), with Terminal A being the shorter walk. The Smofcon function space is right next to the skyway. Like the other airport hotels, the Hilton runs a free shuttle, so that's also an option.
The room rates listed above are current as of November 21st and subject to change at any time. Please check the web sites of all the hotels that interest you when making a reservation.
Releasing Rooms at the Hilton
If you're in the Smofcon room block and you need to cancel part or all of your reservation, you should do so directly with the hotel at this point. Smofcon thanks the people who worked with Ben Yalow to transfer their unneeded reservations in October and November—that meant we were able to move all seven members coming to Smofcon who asked for reservations help into the convention room block at the $118 single/double rate, including both of the SFSFC scholarship winners. They weren't selected until after the room block was full, and we're especially pleased we were able to find Smofcon rooms for them at the inn.
Smofcon also thanks the Hilton Gold and Diamond members who volunteered to be join the "mundane buffer" around the 9th floor hospitality suite. The nine buffer rooms are now assigned and in place; we're in good shape on that.
