Boston for Orlando in 2001, after consulting with our presupporters and exploring all possible options, last night voted to select, as the site for our bid to host the 59^th World Science Fiction Convention, the Dolphin & the Swan, two hotels located on Disney World in Florida, USA.

Boston for Orlando in 2001/MCFI asked presupporters to select between two possible locations in the Orlando, Florida area. One was the site on Disney World; the other site was the International Drive location of the 1992 Worldcon (MagiCon). Voting was overwhelmingly in favor of the Disney World location (366 supported Disney, while 155 preferred I-Drive). This bid is for the traditional Labor Day weekend for the Worldcon, August 30 - September 3, 2001.

What will the Disney location offer as a site for the 59^th Worldcon in 2001?

• Comfortable, well-appointed accommodations at excellent prices ($119 single/double rates in 1998 dollars).
• Convenient facilities - the entire Worldcon within two buildings (100 yards from each other).
• Hotel-style exhibit and conference areas which are spacious, comfortable and capable of hosting a Worldcon. Appointments for this space include carpeted exhibit areas and drive-in access to the exhibit floor.
• Full, free use of the Disney transportation system to get to various theme park locations, and free parking for all members at the Dolphin/Swan.
• Lowered costs to the convention that mean lower costs and more services for attendees.
• A beautiful, unique location convenient to the U.S.'s only operating space port, the Kennedy Space Center (two shuttle launches are currently scheduled close to the proposed dates of the Worldcon).
• Versatile dining opportunities (17 restaurants, bars & coffee shops) in the hotels and still more on the adjoining Boardwalk area. Fast food, grocery shopping and other options a brief (free) bus ride away in Disney Village.
• Outstanding distractions for children, including a special children's area at the Dolphin/Swan complex.
